Goulburn - Sydney Cycle Classic
Race Description
The oldest cycling race in New South Wales (est 1902) is on again on Sunday 16 September, 2012. The race is set to consolidate its position as a major event on the national cycling calendar. The race will depart Goulburn on Sunday at 7.30am as a combined Division 1 and 2 scratch race and will travel a 165km course with an estimated 150 riders and finish at Camden CBD around 11:30am. The race will include three sprints and three King of the Mountain (KOM) sections and will be run as a team’s event. The event will be covered by local radio, newspapers and televised on SBS.
Race Route
The course follows the freeway until the Southern Highlands with the first KOM sprint near Berrima on the highest point of the race course. From here the majority of the remainder of the race occurs along Remembrance Drive (the old Hume Highway) with a sprint location in both Bargo and Tahmoor. The riders will then ascend Razorback from the south with a KOM on offer, before descending and looping back to climb Razorback from the north on Old Razorback Rd with a KOM at the summit. The race then concludes by travelling along the Camden By-pass before entering Camden from the east with a sprint finish in the main street ofCamden.
